Congressman Vern Ehlers Votes NO on Hate Crimes Bill

Once again Vern Ehlers has decided to vote lock step with the party.

On April 29, 2009 Vern Ehlers voted NO to INCLUDE sexual orientation into the Federal Hate Crimes Bill thus denying protection rights to the GLBT population in the United States.

He sided with people like Congress Woman Virginia Foxx who said, on the floor of the House of Representatives that the Hate Crime committed against Mathew Shepard was a HOAX.

Is this the kind of bigotry we want as our legislator in Washington?

Tell Vern Ehlers he is elected by the populous of Michigan to represent the population of Michigan equally!

Already this year 11 people have been killed or committed suicide because of hate and bias against them. In the last two weeks 2 eleven year old boys hung themselves because of hateful speech and bullying. Obviously the laws of the states are inadequate to protect these people especially the children.

Thankfully the House of Representatives could see through the lies and distortions of the Evangelical Religious Right and vote to pass this important legislation on to the Senate.
